Senior Back-end Developer at Codana
Currently not looking for new opportunities or challenges! I'm a mostly self-taught developer with a primary focus on PHP development using Craft CMS and the Laravel framework. I've got a quiet, withdrawn personality with a strong resistance to stress, allowing me to easily adapt to any kind of problem and situation. Throw a problem at me and I'll analyse the situation, devise a strategy to deal with the problem and implement a solution. I'm a naturally curious individual, with a passion for learning new things and learning how things work (I love reverse engineering). During my time at Lunar I've developed a strong sense of teamwork, focusing on the people and their individual progress. I've mentored and I've provided consistent guidance to several of our then junior, now medior/senior developers. In 2025 we merged with Codana. Currently active at Codana, Belgium as a full-time back-end developer. Check us out at https://codana.be!

Bellboy
May 1, 2015 – June 1, 2015
My thesis project for my Bachelor of Multimedia Technology. Bellboy is a reception desk assistant and visitor management platform. It was nominated and became runner-up for both the Multimedia Technology award (global education award) as well as the Multimedia Technology - Web & UX award (specific web department award). An example: Julie is an office manager and loses a lot of time constantly opening the door or the parking barrier for today's visitors. At the same time she's required to prepare a meeting room at the other side of the building but she keeps having to run back to the front desk to open the door or barrier. Her workflow is thus easily disturbed and delayed by things that are really repetitive. Bellboy will allow her to monitor the front door and parking barrier through its dashboard and notifications, and this while she prepares the meeting room or anywhere else throughout the building. As long as she is connected to the company wifi she'll have access to all the information she needs. She'll be kept up-to-date about any arrivals of visitors or any doors/barriers that have been rung at. Bellboy also features an automated entry system through it's NFC/RFID powered business cards. Julie can provide loyal or frequent customers with personalized cards that, upon arrival, will automatically open the parking barrier for them if they have a scheduled appointment on that day. One of our future features is to implement household systems so that our cards can e.g. trigger the coffee machine to make your visitor's favourite coffee. With this in mind, Julie is notified of their arrival while she needn't even open the barrier herself, the coffee would be prepared as they enter the building and it would allow her to greet them in a very personal fashion.
These Days Y&R - Seat Map
March 1, 2015 – April 1, 2015
A seat map Vincent Noben (fellow intern) and I developed to allow employees to view the availability of comfy seats from a web page. This was also part of an experiment for another internal project. All information was displayed in real-time and live feedback could be seen on the web page whenever someone got up or sat down in the seats.
These Days Y&R - Award Scanner
February 1, 2015 – March 1, 2015
During my internship at These Days Y&R, one of the suggested projects was to build an interactive platform for visitors, clients and employees. The platform involved the acquired awards by the agency over the course of the years. Any award that has an existing case movie would be NFC enabled to provide an insight on why the award was won. By placing the aforementioned on the scanner platform the corresponding movie would display on the monitor. The technology is based on an Arduino with NFC/RFID shield, which communicates over the serial port with a custom-written C++ program for Windows. The Arduino platform allows for future tags to be written and read and is thus reusable.
Sint-Jan Online
May 1, 2007 – Present
This project was a student based community/blog, maintained by the senior students of the school. The website was developed in a CMS environment based on PHP/MySQL and was online for just one year. Content involved interviews with the teachers, the school principal and students that had exemplary behaviour and/or hobbies. I was responsible for the development, maintenance and adding of features. Content was provided by my fellow team members.
Certified Laravel Developer
Certification for Laravel Program
June 30, 2026 – Present
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's project history, particularly 'Bellboy' and the 'Award Scanner' using Arduino, shows a proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and a willingness to explore new technologies. Their career progression from Back-end Developer to Lead Back-end Developer/DevOps demonstrates ambition and a commitment to growth. However, the majority of their professional experience is in web backend development (PHP, Laravel), which is a different domain from embedded systems. While there are transferable skills, the direct cultural fit for a pure embedded systems role might require a stronger demonstrated passion or more dedicated projects in that specific area beyond the internship prototypes.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's experience as a Lead Back-end Developer/DevOps at Lunar, where they reinvented the internal development stack and provided guidance to junior/medior developers, indicates strong leadership, mentorship, and problem-solving skills. Their involvement in devising Git flow and deployment strategies suggests an operational mindset and an ability to improve development processes. The internship at These Days Y&R as an Innovation & Creative Technology Intern also points to creative problem-solving and bridging technology with creative concepts.
