Founder-CEO, Constellation Aerospace.
Building the foundations for Orbital AI at Constellation Aerospace. Previously - as Staff Engineer at Planet Labs, I applied my CV/ML expertise in developing real-time insights for Earth observation satellites. I have a PhD in robotics from Monash University, Australia, where I specialized in collaborative surveillance between fixed cameras and a mobile robot. Prior to joining Planet, I was a Machine Learning and Robotics technical expert for the Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC, where I led a team that worked on perception for AVs. I filed 65 patents and my team showed that Ford vehicles could be completely autonomous in large parking garages with no modification. I worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at KU Leuven, Belgium, where I contributed to the Cametron project, using drones/UAVs for autonomous film-making. My research has resulted in 50+ peer-reviewed papers in top computer vision and robotics conferences, with over 3500 citations. Find out more at: https://jaychakravarty.com/

Quadrotor-based Mapping and Surveillance
October 1, 2014 – October 1, 2016
I supervise a number of Master's thesis projects at KU Leuven. These involve autonomous quadrotors using a camera to -map out their surroundings -detect and track people around them -visually servo towards a person and get the best head shot for face recognition
100K
August 1, 2013 – December 1, 2013
This project involves localization along freeways (at high speed, hence the name: 100K) using vision only, in particular, the horizon line. More details in our upcoming paper at the ICRA Workshop on Visual Place Recognition in Changing Environments: http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/etit/proaut/ICRAWorkshopChangingEnvironments/ICRA_2014_Visual_Place_Recognition_in_Changing_Environments/Home.html See 100K in action here: http://youtu.be/ylMbMA8COu0
SenFORCE
March 1, 2012 – September 1, 2013
SenForce is a complete law enforcement solution for councils, police and local government and councils endowed with the responsibility of managing street parking spaces and making the streets safer. It constitutes a number of smart, interacting components like, zoom-able cameras on the roof of the enforcement vehicles, a GPS unit that knows its own position and triggers different parking modes (e.g., timed parking, school zone, bus zone etc) and complete application software to ease the operators load in carrying out their parking enforcement functions. Most importantly, parking & police officers do not have to leave the patrol vehicles for detection and processing infringement delivering unprecedented Operational Health and Safety benefits to them. The system captures the license plate images of cars, converts them into alpha numeric strings and tags them with the time and GPS coordinate and logs them into the database as the user drives the vehicle around a parking lot or a road where parking is to be enforced. Vehicles that violate the road rules are automatically detected and the software generates and logs them as alerts. The road rules can be configured & edited using popular GIS software including Google Map and Google Earth. A video of the system in operation can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Y_933ZP4g
Mobile Phone Robot
January 1, 2012 – September 1, 2012
Mobile phones, with all their sensors and computing power, are the most logical platforms for building cheap, portable, personal mobile robots and I've been developing my own, in my spare time. http://www.jaychakravarty.com/?series=android-robot
40+ Publications
January 1, 2003 – January 1, 2023
