QanoonAI – AI-Powered Legal Assistant for Pakistan

Developed an AI-powered bilingual (Urdu/English) legal assistant to make Pakistani law accessible to the general public, addressing high legal costs and language barriers. Designed and implemented a full Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline: query embedding, semantic vector search (FAISS), context injection into LLM, and hallucination-controlled response generation. Built the Legal Query Processing module with NLP-based language detection, intent recognition (Family/Criminal/Property law), Named Entity Recognition, and query-to-embedding conversion using Hugging Face models. Implemented Case Strength Estimation feature: compares user-submitted case facts against past court rulings using cosine similarity scoring and classifies strength as Low / Medium / High with reasoning. Developed English-to-Urdu contextual legal translation module with bilingual terminology mapping and optional back-translation verification. Built Legal Document Summarization module supporting PDF/text uploads, key section extraction, and bilingual summary generation. Architected a 4-layer system: Presentation Layer (React.js), Application Layer (FastAPI + JWT Auth), AI & Intelligence Layer (RAG System), and Data Layer (PostgreSQL + Vector DB + MinIO). Designed complete data model including User, Legal Document, Case Ruling, Legal Query, Case Strength Analysis, and Translation Record entities with ER diagrams, class diagrams, and sequence diagrams.
