The project aimed to centralize and streamline underwriting data for an insurance company to enable predictive risk assessment. Traditionally, underwriters manually evaluated risk before issuing policies- a process that was time-consuming, costly, and critical for profitability. To optimize this, the data science team developed the Mass Mutual Mortality Score, a machine learning model trained on historical underwriting decisions. This score predicts the risk associated with new policy applicants, helping automate decision- making and improve accuracy in premium pricing.

DrFirst Integration Framework

DrFirst is a healthcare data provider. This project involves building a platform to fetch medical data periodically from DrFirst using Airflow DAGs and ingesting it into an MS SQL Server staging environment. Additionally, a FastAPI application was developed for instant data retrieval, allowing immediate fetching of member (patient) data when an API call is made from the application. A CI/CD pipeline was integrated to automate the building, testing, and deployment of both the Airflow DAGs and the FastAPI application, ensuring smooth and continuous delivery of updates and enhancements to the platform.

Developed a comprehensive Data Quality framework for the organization to validate table-level data using the Great Expectations library. This application handles data validation checks at the file level, storing results in a PostgreSQL database by reading configurations as per client details passed in API calls. Collaborated with the Data Assurance team to refine data validation requirements, resulting in 50% faster implementation of validation suites.
