Senior Engineering Manager at Deliveroo | Leading 4 teams, 32 people, remote, hybrid or in the office | Growing leaders and delivering reliably at scale
I'm an engineering leader with 16+ years of commercial experience building and scaling engineering teams across the UK, Europe and India. I work well with remote, hybrid and co-located teams, and I'm comfortable leading across time zones. My focus is growing leaders, making teams productive and effective, shaping technical strategy, and working closely with Product to deliver real business impact. Today I lead four teams within Deliveroo's Merchants organisation: 32 people in total, including two Engineering Managers and two Tech Leads. It's the biggest part of the org I've owned so far. I'm focused on building a strong group, developing the leaders within it, improving delivery and velocity, and bringing in AI and the right tooling to help the teams move faster without losing quality. I care about the people side as much as the delivery side. I build teams that own their systems end to end, from reliability and on-call through to hiring, mentoring and career growth, and that keep delivering reliably at scale in fast-paced, high-stakes environments. What I do: - Lead and grow engineering teams: managing managers and tech leads, hiring, mentoring and developing engineers, whether remote, hybrid or in the office. - Build productive teams that deliver reliably at scale and own their systems end to end. - Shape technical and product strategy, working closely with Product and Data Science. - Run resilient, scalable services that handle millions of requests, with solid on-call and reliability practices. - Bring in what makes teams more effective: AI in our engineering workflows, modern tooling, and an agile, DevOps culture (Scrum/Kanban, CI/CD, microservices, cloud). Earlier, leading engineering for Trust, my team and I built production AI systems to protect the marketplace. These included multimodal verification that checked customer claims against the order data
