Handicapped Parking Space Usage Determination Through Image Processing
May 1, 2015 – Present
Are the handicapped parking spaces actually being used by those who have the authorization to use them? As Senelick points out, there are handicapped parking spaces that are being used by people who are not handicapped, while others who need the handicapped parking space are forced to wait until the space becomes open. On the other hand, there are times where all the available handicapped parking spaces are actually being used by handicapped people. Both of these scenarios relate to the efficiency of handicapped parking spaces. Whether or not stores and attractions should allocate more handicapped parking spaces depends on how much, if at all, these parking spaces are being used. We need to be able to gather data on handicapped parking spaces. Who uses them? How often? At what times? The simplest way to acquire such statistics would be to have someone stand outside all day and night and check to see who is using the parking space, but this solution is expensive and inefficient. However, the technology behind image processing allows for a simple but effective solution. There is already technology developed that detects license plates, thus the only technology that would need to be developed is the detection of the handicapped indicator.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's diverse experience across startups (Suno, Spatial Labs, Pearl, Minimum, Sieve Inc) and research (MIT Media Lab) indicates adaptability and an entrepreneurial spirit. The project on handicapped parking space usage demonstrates a focus on real-world problem-solving and social impact, which could align well with a culture valuing innovation and purpose. However, the primary experience is heavily skewed towards software engineering and leadership, rather than pure data analysis, which might require adjustment to a data-focused team culture.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's experience as a Lead Engineer and Co-Founder/CTO suggests strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills. Descriptions of leading cross-functional teams, optimizing workflows, and securing funding indicate operational acumen. The project on handicapped parking space usage also shows initiative and a practical approach to data collection and analysis.
