OCR (Optical Character Recognition)

The OCR project focused on automating data extraction from various document images such as Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving Licence, ITR Forms, and Form 60. In Phase-2, the goal was to enhance the accuracy and robustness of the YOLOv8 deep learning model for detecting key-value fields even from new, unseen images. The image preprocessing was done using and PyTesseract was used to extract text. The extracted data was then structured and stored in a MySQL database through REST APIs built with Django Rest Framework. The system aimed to support real-time document processing for applications such as identity verification and financial form digitization. Analyzed and understood OCR and document processing requirements. Prepared detailed test scenarios and test cases for various documents like Aadhaar, PAN, Driving Licence, ITR, etc. Performed functional, system, and integration testing on the OCR pipeline. Validated field detection using YOLOv8 and text extraction with pyTesseract. Performed regression testing after model updates or script changes. Tested Django REST APIs for correct data submission and response. Validated database entries in MySQL after data extraction. Retested and verified bugs after defect fixes. Performed image enhancement validation using OpenCV. Involved in sprint planning and daily stand-up calls with the team. Logged and tracked defects using Jira tool.
