DebiCheck is an initiative from the payments association of South Africa (PASA) to convert the old NAEDO/AEDO system into DebiCheck mandate based system. The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) reviewed the early collection environment during 2011 to 2021, aiming to address a set of main issues promoting the strategic review of the early collection environment. The outcome of the strategy review process by the SARB was an instruction issued through a SARB terms of reference to PASA during July 2013 to initiate a project whose goal is to address in essences, authentication of mandate for debit transaction by account holders (payers). The DebiCheck process implements a two-factor type of authentication during mandate initiation, amendment and suspension.
